November 19, 1956, letter by Ellen W. Goss describing history of Piedmont Female Academy, located near Stony Point, Albemarle County, Va.; discusses various locations of the Academy and relationships of her ancestors with the Academy. Included is original letter by Ellen Goss with handwritten transcript by Polydora Goss Woods (Mrs. John Woods). Also included is a letter from Bernard P. Chamberlain to [William] Runge concerning a "picture or a pamphlet relative to Piedmont Female Academy" and referencing a note on an enclosed envelope describing the location of the Academy. Also included is an original copy of the 1857-1858 (Eighth Session) Catalogue of Piedmont Female Academy.
